A workshop in which old things are almost as new again
The school IGS Kreyenbrück in Oldenburg is probably one of the best teaching subjects for children and young people: "Learning through commitment". Schoolchildren are invited to implement changes they would like to see at their school and their surroundings. Active participation and self-efficacy are the main focus of this subject, not the mere accumulation of knowledge. In the case of the IGS Kreyenbrück, young people have set up a repair café in the village: a workshop in which old things are almost as new, broken down or reprocessed from recycled materials. From the bike, to IT equipment, to electrical appliances or even repairs by sewing machines, everything is there.
Meanwhile, the repair café has become an institution. Once a month, all interested parties from the neighborhood can get help, the demand is great. The project is supported and evaluated by the Carl von Ossietzky University.
Foundation education promotes together with the Karl Schlecht Foundation
The Foundation Foundation has funded the Repair Café together with the Karl Schlecht Foundation within the scope of the theme "Education for Sustainable Development (BNE) and Entrepreneurship Education". Children's and young people's participation is then successfully lived in schools, when space is created for their own ideas. This freedom is an attitude: if school leaders, teachers, volunteer volunteers work together with children and young people, there is a change in the educational locations from within and can have lasting effects. In the case of the repair café, the use of the environment has long since become known beyond the walls of the school building.
The Education Foundation has launched a theme-fund "Education for Sustainable Development (ESD)", which promotes children and young people in their commitment to a society with environmental awareness. Here you can directly support projects: www.stiftungbildung.com/ donations.
In the context of the UNESCO's World Action Program "Education for Sustainable Development (ESD)," the Foundation for Education promotes young people to deal with the issue of ESD and to contribute. Since May of this year, there has been a Youth Participation Team called youboX: youboX.
